Lara Dutta made headlines when she won the coveted Miss Universe title in 2000. Dutta was not only beautiful but she also won hearts with her intelligence. 18 years later this beauty diva stands as one of the most inspiring Indian actresses of Bollywood. She advocates healthy living, dons the producer’s hat with proud, works for fun, is married to ace player Mahesh Bhupati and is enjoying the best phase of her life ‘motherhood’.

You are a perfect example of an independent, empowered woman. From winning the Miss Universe title to becoming one of the most sought after actresses of Bollywood. How would you describe your journey when you look back?

It’s been a long one… (smiles..) I don’t know whether it’s a long one or a short one.  I don’t think I ever made any calculated step in my career. I think life just kind of happened to me. I always try to do the best with the opportunities that pave my way. But I think it’s a wonderful responsibility to be a role model for a lot of young women out there in the world. Constantly striving to make life a mission so that I can be a guide or a mentor to young women so that they can know that they can actually have it all without having to compromise on their belief system or on their values or on their health. It takes a little of hard work and a bit of a choice.

You wear many hats from being an actor, producer, a health enthusiast, a doting wife and a caring mother. Which role you enjoy the most?

I think the most rewarding part at this point of my life is motherhood. All mothers say that when they have their children that becomes their priority. It’s amazing. I have a little girl who is very smart and very bright as much as I try and teach her the right things in life; she is my teacher as well. I learn a lot of things from my daughter every day.

This year’s The Maritime Standard Awards will have more than a touch of Bollywood glitz and glamour, as it has been confirmed that the actress, model and former Miss Universe, Lara Dutta, will host the event.

The Maritime Standard Awards, which recognise excellence and achievements in the shipping, ports and related sectors, take place on Monday 23rd October at the Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai, and Lara’s presence is sure to generate considerable global interest in the event, which is now a firm fixture in the maritime industry calendar.

TMS managing director, Trevor Pereira, says, “Lara is a true superstar and we are delighted that she has accepted our invitation to be Master of Ceremonies on the night. As she is the biggest personality we have had on stage since we launched the Awards three years ago, her presence will help take the event to a whole new level, generating a huge amount of international media exposure for our Awards winners and sponsors.”

Since being crowned Miss Universe in 2000, Lara has gone on to have an award winning and hugely successful career on the Bollywood movie scene, with a succession of box office hits that have made her a household name. Now married to Indian tennis player, Mahesh Bhupathi, Lara is also well known for her health and fitness videos in India, which focus on yoga and meditation.

Despite being launched only three years ago, The Maritime Standard (TMS) Awards has earned the right to be referred to as the region’s premiere shipping and maritime awards event. The first three Maritime Standard Awards, held in November 2014 and 2015, and October 2016, all received the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and were held at the prestigious Atlantis Ballroom, on The Palm.

The film is on IIFA so let’s see how that goes. I was just shooting for it right now,” Salman said, in an interview with India Today.

Lara Dutta turned producer with the film Chalo Dilli in the year 2011. She was seen alongside Vinay Pathak and the movie was appreciated by the critics.

Now, she is back with her second film as a producer under her banner Bheegi Basanti Entertainment. The film will be helmed by National Award winning director Sushil Rajpal and will again star Vinay.

Talking about the premise of the film, the story revolves around an NRI single mother’s emotional journey through the heartland of India in search of the anonymous donor who fathered her son.

Lara confirmed the news stating, “We at Bheegi Basanti Entertainment have been on the lookout for another story that had the same humour and emotional connect that Chalo Dilli had and have finally found that with a script that National Award winning director Sushil Rajpal has brought us. It is liberating and refreshing to pursue great stories and bring them alive on celluloid through challenging and lovable characters and most importantly to make people laugh and cry at the same time.”

When asked about Vinay, Lara said, “Vinay is a fabulous actor and co-star and I find it invigorating and thoroughly enjoyable to share the screen with him.”

This will be the first outing of Lara and Sushil, whereas Vinay has worked with him before. The film is set to go on floors in the month of June 2017.

Lara was last seen in the Emraan Hashmi starrer Azhar playing the role of a lawyer named Meera Verma.
