lara-762x1024The stunning actress and former beauty queen tells us why Africa is so special and how she loves travelling along with her young daughter.

1. Recent Vacation

My last vacation was in Melbourne and it was really special because we celebrated our daughter’s first birthday there. We took her for a cruise down the Yarra River and played tennis at the Rod Laver Arena. I love Melbourne with its colonial architecture juxtaposed against a modern skyline.

2. Must take along while travelling

An iPad to entertain my daughter, a cashmere shawl that doubles up as a blanket, a camera to capture special moments and wet wipes to clean little grubby fingers. It also used to include a good book, but a lot changes after motherhood!

3. Most extravagant holiday

Have been on a few. Five days at Singita Kruger National Park in Africa and 10 days at Le Bristol in Paris were quite extravagant.

4. Weird onboard conversation

A woman spent eight hours telling me how she was convinced we were going to crash and die on that flight!

5. Latest shopping acquisition

A fabulous fan for our new home from The Big Ass fan company.

6. One destination you would recommend

Safari in Africa. It is the closest I have ever felt to Mother Earth. There is something raw and organic about Africa that makes you connect to the deepest part of yourself. Africa offers an experience like no other place on earth.

7. A city you love

Now this is an interesting mix. I love a desert city of Jaisalmer and love watching the sun go down over the dunes and I also have a lot time for New York, which is truly global metropolis.

lara_bhupathi_300Bollywood star Lara Dutta would like to see her tennis star husband Mahesh Bhupathi on the silver screen.

“I would like to see Mahesh on the screen but I don’t think he will ever come in front of the camera,” said the former miss universe.

Bhupathi married Lara in February, 2011. The couple was blessed with a daughter in January, 2012.

Talking about her 15-month old daughter, Saira, the actress said, “Motherhood is quite challenging. Everyday is a whole new adventure with your child. I absolutely love it and my daughter is a happy and independent kid. We are extremely happy to have her in our lives.”

Lara, who launched Samsung’s new phone Galaxy S4 in New Delhi, considers herself a very tech savvy person.

“I have to be honest, I can’t live without my phone. It’s my first child so we are trying to capture every moment of her life and want to make as many videos as possible.”

Lara started her Bollywood journey with Priyanka Chopra in “Andaaz”. She has been part of commercially successful films like “No Entry” , “Kaal”, “Partner” and “Housefull” among others.

“Chalo Dilli” was Lara’s first venture as a producer. The film starred Lara and Vinay Pathak in the lead roles.

On its sequel, she said, “We are only contemplating things at this moment so there is nothing in the pipeline as of now. I would love to do a sequel but if something shapes up then we will announce it.”

Her production house Big Daddy productions is currently busy with two films which will go on floor in August and December respectively.

Lara was last seen in Bejoy Nambiar’s action-thriller film “David”.

264Thirteen years ago, they won beauty pageants together — Lara Dutta was Miss Universe and Priyanka Chopra, Miss World 2000. Eventually, they went on to act together in the 2003 hit Andaaz, and jointly won the female debut awards for the year. The two never acted together again, fuelling rumours of a cold rivalry, but rubbishing them all on her visit to the Capital on Saturday, Dutta said that she would, on the contrary, love to cast PeeCee in one of her forthcoming production ventures.

“We started together … and I feel so proud when I see Priyanka doing so well! I’d love to cast her in one of my forthcoming productions,” said Dutta, who turned producer in 2011 with Chalo Dilli.

Asked if she regrets taking a backseat in films after motherhood and making way for her contemporaries to benefit in the process, she says, “Not at all. Bollywood is not the only thing that I wanted to do.  I acted full-fledged for 12 years and now my priorities in life are different. Those who aimed just for Bollywood are living their dream, and it’s good for them … but there’s more to me than just an actor,” said the 35-year-old, who’s currently working on her next production venture that’ll see her in the lead.

“I’m also eagerly waiting for the sequel of No Entry,” said Dutta, who looked svelt, having lost a lot of weight since pregnancy in 2011. But it’s not rigorous workouts or sport practice with tennis-champ husband Mahesh Bhupathi that keeps her in shape.

“Running behind my one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Saira is the secret!”

Lara-Mahesh’s love story
Actor Lara Dutta and hubby Mahesh Bhupathi may be celebs in their own fields, but it’s not Bhupathi’s tennis or Dutta’s acting or Miss Universe title that attracted them to each other. “I am not even a big tennis fan. Mahesh is a self-made man, very reliable… just the perfect life partner one wants to have. That’s what attracted me,” said Dutta, who was in town yesterday with hubby for a special initiative marking the launch of Samsung Galaxy 4. “She’s a very grounded person, and family oriented. That’s what I loved about her,” added Bhupathi.

009Model-actress Lara Dutta is keen to return on the sets of “No Entry” sequel.

“No Entry Mein Entry”, a sequel to the hit 2005 comedy, will be directed by Anees Bazmee and produced by Boney Kapoor. It is expected to go on the floors by the end of this year.

“I have been waiting to go to the sets of ‘No entry’ for the last four years. I am waiting for Boney Kapoor to actually show me the sets and then I will believe that it has started shooting,” said Dutta, who was in the capital to walk the ramp for Birdhichand Ghanshyam Das Jewelers at the day one of India International Jewelry Week (IIJW).

The 34-year-old Former Miss Universe was recently seen in “David”, directed by Bejoy Nambiar.

The film marked the return of Dutta on the big screen after her pregnancy. She was blessed with a daughter in January, 2012. The actress is back to her fabulous shape after the birth of her first child with tennis star Mahesh Bhupati.

“I believe in fashion that is practical. It’s the first time in my life that I’m travelling with my daughter I always travel with an extra pair of clothes in my bag because you never know what’s going to happen,” she said.

Dutta donned a flowing purple gown with a huge royal diamond neck piece from the collection known as ‘Amer reincarnated’ inspired by Amer fort of Rajasthan.

“I get very excited when I get to walk for jewelry week. It’s also that you are hoping that you will run-off with what you are wearing. There is something really different we have worked with so many designers on their clothing range,” she said.

The show saw a caricature of train of being fixed at the ramp from which models walked into into the ramp. The models wore both Indo-western clothing and traditional lehenghas and sherwanis.
