She is a former Miss Universe and a successful actress but for Lara Dutta motherhood is now her biggest priority. She says she still feels nervous going on a catwalk.
“Motherhood takes vanity completely out of the picture. Comfort is the key. When you are coming out of a plane after a nine-hour flight with drool all over your clothes, the last thing you are worried about is being photographed. You just want to take your kid home,” Dutta said.
The actress and her husband, tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi, are parents to four-year-old daughter Saira and she says she is her biggest fashion critic.
“She is my biggest fashion police and has a say in everything I wear. And I guess she should have a say. She looks at everything and has authority on my hair, make-up and clothes,” Dutta said.
Dutta walked the ramp for designer Eshaa Amiin at the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week winter-festive 2016 and the former model said the ramp still makes her nervous.
“It’s exciting to walk the ramp every time. No matter how many times you have walked, every show has its own mood and feel so there is something to look forward to every time. The energy of the crowd and as a model… you tend to be chameleon and contribute to your look. Even after so many years, I feel a bit nervous.”
Dutta is happy that the fashion scene is more organised now and Indian models are being recognised on the world stage.
“Modelling and fashion world is still chaotic but a lot more organised than before. Earlier there were few models and people became queen of the catwalk but now things are more competitive and I am happy that I am kind of out from that modelling scene and doing different things. Now even international models are coming. Plus it’s fantastic that girls from India like Laxmi Menon are going international.”
On the work front, Dutta will soon start working on her next production venture.
