Actress Lara Dutta, who is essaying a geeky character in “Singh is Bling”, says she does not have the pressure of playing a leading lady or being glamorous on screen anymore.

After giving birth to a child in 2012, Lara took a break from acting. Now she is elated to be back with Akshay Kumar-Amy Jackson starrer film.

“There is no pressure of playing the heroine or love interest of the hero. I can actually be the actress and have fun by playing great roles, forget about what your looking like, what your hairstyle and clothes are like,” Lara told PTI.  “One can look beyond all these things and focus on acting. It was a good time to be back,” she said.

However, the 37-year-old actress has no issues staying away from glamorous roles.  “I am completely ok with it (not playing glamorous roles) don’t have any problem with it. For me, its liberating to not have that constant pressure on you,” she said.

Lara thinks heroines of Hindi films are stereotypical and she wants to break away from that. “For the last 10 years or so I was doing the same thing… Doing glamorous films except one or two films ‘Billu Barber’ or ‘Chalo Delhi’. I think the Hindi film heroine is stereotypical. It is nice to have an opportunity to have that freedom to not to do that anymore,” she said.

Lara Dutta is ready rock the big screen once again and she will be seen in Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson starrer ‘Singh is Bliing’. The actress has said she appreciated that her role in the film was different to what she’s been known for.

“I play Imli, a translator with no fashion sense. It was quite a relief to go de-glam actually. I like to dress up otherwise like most other women, but this was a welcome change — I didn’t have to worry about how I was looking all the time,” said Dutta, according to Deccan Chronicle.

Talking about her roles in both ‘Azhar’ and ‘Fitoor’ too, Dutta divulged, “I play a lawyer in Azhar but my character is fictional, not based on anyone in particular. Fitoor is another beautiful film and it doesn’t matter to me whether or not I’m the lead. After a point you just want to be a better actor, not prove a point”.

From a newbie to the fashion industry to mentoring young models for the ongoing pageant Miss Diva 2015, Lara Dutta speaks of her journey.

Starting off her career as a newbie in the fashion industry, the tall and slender 16-year-old would sit in the back rows at fashion weeks, clutching on to her college text books, and observe the models as they walked the ramp, hoping one day she would make it there too. With hard work and perseverance, this studious-looking-teenager evolved into a beauty queen and won the title of Miss Universe in 2000.

“This wasn’t an easy ride, but I’ve had the good fortune of getting the right guidance,” says Lara Dutta, who is mentoring a group of models for Miss Diva 2015 beauty pageant. “My family realised that I had a calling for modeling much before I did. I won my first beauty contest when I was 16, and following that, I was lucky to get the right campaigns. Though the money wasn’t as much as it is now in the fashion industry, working at a young age gave me confidence. Now, I will be mentoring these young girls and hopefully do for them what others had done for me. It brings me great joy to see them succeed. Life has come a full circle,” says Lara.

She is a part of the selection panel for auditions of the pageant, which is being held across 10 cities in India. The Kolkata and Lucknow rounds are over and now the crew is travelling to Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Indore, Hyderabad, Chandigarh and Pune. The auditions in Pune will be held on August 30 and the final round of the pageant will take place in Mumbai for which the date will be announced later.
